Local Information
We are located in Tellisford four miles north-east of Frome and ten miles south-east of Bath. Our location that inspired the author Arthur Mee to write “We do not remember a more charming place in all our journeyings”; what held good when those words were written in the 1930s remains good today.
Bath is a historic town with Roman origins and a wealth of fabulous Georgian architecture. The Roman Baths and Royal Crescent are world famous attractions and the city offers a fantastic range of shops and restaurants. There is an annual Christmas market which always proves very popular and the Theatre Royal hosts some of the best plays and shows.
The historic town of Bradford-On-Avon, just 5 miles away, with it’s tithe barn, unique shops and old English tea rooms is not to be missed!
Bring your bicycle or hire one locally at the Lock Inn at Bradford-On-Avon and ride the towpath from Bradford-On-Avon to Bath and enjoy watching the canal boats passing by and canal side pubs on route!
We are only 1 mile away from Farleigh Hungerford Castle & the famous Trowbridge Pump Festival, held annually in July -book early to avoid disappointment!
For a great family day out, a 15 minute drive from The Granary B&B takes you to Longleat Safari Park.
Tellisford Village is situated on the River Frome and the medieval Pack Horse Bridge is most certainly worth a visit. The Environment Agency maintain a monitoring station here close to the old Weir and Tellisford Mill has been up graded to produce electrical power using a German made water turbine capable of producing enough electricity to power the whole village.
The Parish Church of All Saints which backs onto the Granary Bed and Breakfast, dates back to the 12th Century and is built of stone quarried in Doulting – the same source as that used for the magnificent Wells Cathedral - the smallest Cathedral City in the whole of the UK and definitely worth a visit during your stay.
Pack your wellies and include a stroll through the village and over the Packhorse Bridge to the weir (often known as a local beauty spot) and for the more energetic, continue on to the neighbouring village of Rode for a light lunch or refreshment in The Mill at Rode pub, before completing your circuit back to the Granary Bed and Breakfast.
